Atlantic Equestrian is Niki Borden and Matthew Shaw - mostly Niki! Niki is responsible for the daily operations of the barn all the way from cleaning and feeding hay through to running the lesson program and is the onsite trainer. Niki has over 20 years of experience riding horses, is a certified coach with the Certified Horsemanship Association (CHA) and is also a licensed coach with Equine Canada. Niki is passionate about horses and continuing education. She is always looking for way to increase her knowledge in the horse world. In addition to giving lessons and training horses, she also continues to take weekly lessons herself and participates in dressage, jumping and natural horsemanship clinics whenever possible. To ensure she is offering the absolute best care for the horses, Niki is also working towards a diploma in Equine Sciences with Guelph University.  Niki’s lifelong passion for horses and riding is genuine and infectious!

Matthew can hold a horse and clean up poop like no-one else...

Our mission is to provide a positive, supportive, stress-free environment for horse enthusiasts of all ages and stages. We will provide quality care for horses, in a safe and welcoming environment, so you can enjoy time with your horse in a professional, but family-oriented establishment. No matter the discipline, we will empower you to set and achieve attainable goals with your horse. 

So, why the name “Atlantic Equestrian”? It’s a question we have been asked quite a few times and someone even said “you do know we’re closer to the Pacific?!”!! Well, we had a long list of potential options and even some suggestions from Matthew’s friends (which cannot be printed…!) and at the end of it we narrowed it down to Atlantic Equestrian. So why this? Well, Niki is from Nova Scotia, and Matthew is from England and the ocean between them is the Atlantic. So, you could say the Atlantic is what brought us together, so we thought it was quite appropriate, plus, it sounds pretty cool!
